The Commando Fitness 1.5 came about in 2012 when we all realised how hard it was to get sponsors, so we decided to run our own event.
Every runner pays a £10 entry fee and all the proceeds to the Royal Marines Benevolent Fund, this way no one has to get sponsors as the entry fee is enough with Commando Fitness UK absorbing any admin fees
The RMBF supports widows and families of Royal Marines as well as ex RM are who have fallen on hard times.
"This is very close to my heart as I have lost many good friends over the years and seen first-hand the affect it has on the young children left behind.”
"I chose the Royal Marines Benevolent Fund as it is a small under-funded charity which needs more support."
It is a 1.5 mile run on Bexhill sea front from the toilets at south cliff to the bottom of galley hill. We chose this distance for several reasons; it is the annual BFT (Basic Fitness Test) for the Royal Marines, we run 1.5 in 15 minutes and then 1.5 back which we must complete in 10 minutes, in boots (it is our easiest test!).
Also, it is suitable for all levels, even if you walk it, which some indeed do. If you are fitter and think that isn’t far enough then run faster and aim for the course record!Sign Up
